Acupuncture

Yin-YangAcupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy - known as Qi - moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) beneath the skin. Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities - Yin and Yang - and when these become unbalanced, illness may result. By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body's own healing response and help restore its natural balance. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma. The principal aim of acupuncture in treating the whole person is to recover the equilibrium within the body.

HeadacheWhat conditions does acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of health conditions. Here is just a partial list of conditions for which acupuncture has been found to be effective: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, headaches and migraines, lower back pain and sciatica, frozen shoulder, arthritis, PMS, knee pain, planter fascitis.

How does it work?

According to Oriental Medicine, acupuncture works by stimulating the flow of Qi (pronounced 'chee'), or natural healing energy, throughout one's body. In a healthy person, Qi flows fully and freely. When there is blockage or disruption of this flow, many types of illness or pain result.

AcupunctureDoes it hurt?

Acupuncture rarely causes any discomfort, and different people have different sensitivity levels. Some people don't feel the needle being inserted at all; those who are more sensitive to needles have described the sensation as feeling like a small mosquito bites, and only for a fraction of a second. Most people find the experience of receiving acupuncture relaxing; often people nap while the needles are in place.

Is it safe?

We use pre-sterilized, pre-packaged needles. Furthermore, acupuncture treatments are natural and drug-free, so there are none of the side-effects and dependencies often associated with medication.

Diversified Technique is a quick technique that generally results in the popping sound as the chiropractor makes the adjustment. It is one of the most widely used forms of manipulation in the chiropractic field.

Diversified TechniqueDiversified is the most common technique used by chiropractors. It is a manual adjustment technique used to correct misaligned or subluxated spinal segments of the neck and back.

This is a technique taught at most major chiropractic colleges. It is primarily the use of the practitioner's hands to make the spinal correction. Many times an audible pop will be heard as the correction is made.

This is the technique style that most people associate with chiropractic, using a small, quick thrust to increase movement in a specific joint and often creating a clicking sound as the joint surfaces separate. The clicking, or cavitation to give it it's correct name, is caused by decreased pressure inside the joint, creating a bubble of gas, which clicks as it bursts.

An Epidemic of Pain

Pain is one of the top health problems in the United States. An estimated 50 million Americans live with chronic pain caused by disease, disorder or accident. An additional 25 million people suffer acute pain resulting from surgery or accident. Approximately two thirds of these individuals in pain have been living with this pain for more than five years.

The most common types of pain include arthritis, lower back, bone/joint pain, muscle pain and fibromyalgia. The loss of productivity and daily activity due to pain is substantial. In a study done in 2000, it was reported that 36 million Americans missed work in the previous year due to pain, and that 83 million indicated that pain affected their participation in various activities.

People with chronic pain have difficulty finding doctors who can effectively treat their pain. The Chronic Pain in America: Roadblocks to Relief study found that one out of four pain patients had changed doctors at least three times, reporting that the primary reason for change was that they still experienced pain.

New Treatment Options with Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a safe, pain free treatment that only takes a few minutes per visit. Laser Therapy does not require the use of drugs or surgery, and there are no side effects or risks that may occur with other forms of treatment. In addition, it can often achieve results faster and better than other treatment modalities. Many conditions show signs of improvement in even the first or second treatments.

The primary mechanism of laser therapy is photobiomodulation which causes a stimulation of cells and tissue repair that is based on scientific research which has demonstrated positive physiological effects of infrared wavelengths on cellular organelles and electron chain molecules.

Research Results from Laser Therapy
  • Injuries treated with laser therapy heal faster
  • Laser Therapy has a strengthening effect on tissue repair
  • Laser Therapy improves blood flow & lymphatic drainage
  • It is an effective means of relief for many pain syndromes
  • It can improve immune response

Kennedy Spinal Decompression Therapy

The Kennedy Spinal Decompression Therapy has been proven clinically effective for alleviating pain associated with herniated or bulging discs, even after failed surgery attempts.

This traction-based procedure is one of the leading long-term treatment options for treating low back (Lumbar) and cervical neck problems.

Often, the pain in your back or neck is due to a bulging or herniated condition of one or more of the discs that act as a sort of shock absorber or cushion in between the vertebrae that make up your spinal column. When your disc(s) bulge, are herniated, or simply wear out, the disc can press or pinch against a sensitive nerve, the result of which can be VERY painful.

Over time, your body suffers from the wear and tear of daily living, as well as the overall effects of gravity. Kennedy Spinal Decompression Therapy helps to create a negative pressure in your disc (decompression). Decompression is the result of proper positioning and tractioning of your spinal column.
