This week I want to talk to you about stretching. If you have been following our blog for a while, you know that we are huge fans of stretching and other low impact ways of keeping yourself healthy. Here are a few stretches that you can try when you first wake up or right before you go to bed.

  1. Toe Touch. This is one of the most common stretches that you will find. Even if you can’t touch your toes, it is something that is more than worth trying. Sit with your legs flat against the bed and your back against the headboard so that your body forms a 90 degree angle. From there, lift up your arms so they are parallel to your legs. Now lean forward at the waist until you feel a slight tug in the backs of your thighs. Hold this position for about ten seconds and slowly go back until your back is against the headboard once again. You can change this one up by sliding your hands along your legs or even bending one leg to the side while you stretch the other and then switching. You may just find that before long you are actually able to touch your toes where you weren’t able before.
  2. Leg Lifts. Leg lifts are simultaneously one of the easiest and one of the hardest stretches to do. Lay flat on the bed on your back and simply pick your legs up while keeping them straight. This sounds easy, but it can and will take a lot of strength. Hold this for five seconds before gently lowering your legs again. Eventually you will be able to hold them for an extended period of time. You can also try this while lying on your side and picking up one leg at a time and holding it. It will cause some aches, but the result will definitely be worth it.

Stretching is one of the best exercises you can have in your arsenal because almost anyone can do it in almost any location. While stretching shouldn’t be the only exercise you get, it is certainly a great place to start.
