Wet Winters and Weather Related Pain - Chiropractic Corner

Wet Winters and Weather Related Pain - Chiropractic Corner

I have never been the biggest fan of winter. I have always found that while snow is pretty, it never stays that way for long. This is especially true when I need to shovel multiple inches of it. One thing that I dislike more and more the older I get is the rain that we see when it isn’t cold enough to snow. While I don’t mind being outside in a light mist, it rarely seems to work out that way. On New Year’s Eve, I was driving to a friend’s house and almost had to pull over because the rain was so severe. The worst is when you realize that you should be glad that it isn’t snow but you still miss the sun. Not only does it make you feel ungrateful, but it is also painful.

The combination of wet and cold is never pleasant. This is especially true when it comes over an extended period of time. This year, my area has seen more rain than snow but that still doesn’t mean it has been pleasant. While I am glad that I haven’t been trapped inside because of blizzard conditions like I was last year, it seems like the rain makes you just as miserable sometimes. It also isn’t fun when you can’t open your windows due to the rain (because those are the days that seem to be decently warm) or find that there is a leak somewhere and need to rush to fix it before it freezes again. If you’re already in some pain due to the weather, moving around a lot is the last thing that you want to do. I know all I ever want to do in the winter is curl up under some blankets and sleep.

If you find that you are experiencing some pain that is likely weather related, come into DiBella Chiropractic. We understand just how uncomfortable this time of year can be for people with chronic conditions and it normally doesn’t get better until the weather starts to warm back up. We can help you set up a plan to deal with the aches and pains at home as well as regular appointments for chiropractic care to help combat any other issues. Just because the weather outside is miserable most days doesn’t mean you have to be. Come and get the treatment you deserve today and feel worlds better tomorrow!

Back Pain - Gastonia Chiropractor Take Home Message

Back Pain - Gastonia Chiropractor Take Home Message

This week I wanted to talk to you about back pain. Back pain is something that around 84% of adults suffer from on a regular basis. This means that there is a pretty good chance that at least one person reading this lives with some form of back pain and here at DiBella Chiropractic we think that this is at least one person too many. We hate when people are in pain, it’s why we do what we do in the first place. This is why we wanted to give you some tips about how to deal with and lessen your back pain. These methods include:

  1. Ice and Heat. Using ice packs and heating pads can save you a lot of pain and misery when it comes to pain and things beyond your control. Ice helps to reduce inflammation if your pain is a nerve issue while the heat helps to relax your muscles if it is a muscular problem. You may even want to alternate between the two to get the best effect.
  2. Stretching. Stretching is a great way to work out those little spots that tend to develop in your overused (or underused) muscles. Look up some simple stretches that you can do at home and see how much of a difference it makes. You may even want to start doing them on a daily basis to prevent the pain coming back.
  3. Correcting Your Posture. Sitting at a computer or lounging on the couch for hours at a time can really mess with your back if you aren’t sitting correctly. Always try to make an effort to correct your posture if you are sitting down by making sure your feet are flat on the floor and your chin is parallel to it. Do your best to make sure your shoulders are level as well, as leaning can cause a vast amount of pain if done over a long period of time. Try unclenching your jaw as well and see how much this helps the rest of your posture.

Back pain is often considered a fact of life, but it shouldn’t have to be. In fact, here at DiBella Chiropractic we want to do all we can to make sure that you never feel back pain again. Come in for a spinal adjustment and see how much it can help you.

Truth Behind Chiropractic Care - Gastonia Chiropractor

Truth Behind Chiropractic Care - Gastonia Chiropractor

This week, I wanted to focus again on studies that have been done which show the truth behind chiropractic care. We read two wonderful articles about what chiropractic care can do for two completely different kinds of disorders, but both are chronic and can be life altering. In fact, both have the capability to keep the sufferer inside for most of their lives. Here at DiBella Chiropractic, we never want you to feel like you need to stay home and we will do everything we can to get you healthy again. Here is a recap of what we learned this week.

The first article was about Crohn’s Disease and other similar disorders. As I said, I have grown up with most of my family suffering from these and was amazed to hear about the study of over fifty patients who were used to find a strong link between these digestive disorders and chiropractic care. It was found that most people who have Crohn’s Disease or something like it have misalignments in their lower backs and it was postulated that this may be a cause and effect situation, as those who received treatment for those issues in their spines showed decreased symptoms of the disorder.

The second article was about a seven year old boy who suffered from allergies and asthma as well as chronic colds that were so severe he had to make monthly trips to the doctor, would miss at least a day or two of school every month, and had to take two medications every day plus his nebulizer. I don’t know about you, but getting my ten year old nephews to take medication when they’re sick is difficult enough, but this boy had been diagnosed at five months and had been suffering ever since. However, through chiropractic care, he was able to stop his need for the medication within two weeks and didn’t need to miss a day of school due to sickness all year with continued treatment.

Once again, I read these studies in awe. I may know just how much chiropractic care can change someone’s life, but sometimes I forget just how different those lives are. Someone who is five months old and suffering, and continues to suffer for years, until they finally find the thing that helps is saddening. I am simply so happy that they were able to find what worked for them through chiropractic care.

Pain Due to Weather Change - Gastonia Chiropractic Care

Pain Due to Weather Change - Gastonia Chiropractic Care

If you have a chronic disorder such as arthritis or fibromyalgia, you are probably someone who heavily dislikes this time of year. The constant shifting in weather patterns can play absolute havoc with your joints. Any time a storm is coming, you likely will be able to feel it in one spot or another. The pain that you feel is made worse by the fact that it is cold and it can leave you in a pitiful ball of soreness and anger. Oh, is that just me? Well, either way, I think we can all agree that this time of the year is not really much fun.

Having the difference in atmospheric pressure does more than just create fronts that show up in different colors on a screen. These changes can and do physically affect humans, whether they realize it or not. Some people get a stuffy nose when there is a certain type of pressure. Some people get more lethargic. Some of us end up in pain because of it. I know, it really isn’t fair, but unfortunately there isn’t much that we can do to stop it.

When you are in pain because of the changing weather, there isn’t much you can do to prevent it. One good thing to try is exercising, even though you most likely won’t want to move at all. Try something small, like stretching or walking around inside your home. You don’t need to do anything crazy to try and help the pain in your joints, even the smallest bit helps.

If exercising isn’t possible, you may want to try something like a heating pad to help your muscles to relax. You can make your own if you don’t have one by filling a sock with uncooked rice and placing it in the microwave for a few seconds. Applying it to the spot which you have pain may help to relieve some of the ache due to the weather.
Another way that you can help yourself relieve the pain you feel due to the change in weather is by coming into DiBella Chiropractic. The pain is caused by the pressure in your joints changing as well, so if you get an adjustment, it stands to reason that you will feel much better. Let us help you through this weather change!

Winter Car Accidents - Chiropractic Care

Winter Car Accidents - Chiropractic Care

Winter is an extremely dangerous time of the year for people walking and driving alike. We tend to see multiple car accidents in inclement weather, but those that happen in winter tend to be even more dangerous. During this past week we have seen a severe blizzard hit much of the mid west. Many people are still without power in her area due to downed power lines. The attempt to get power back on has been hampered by trees across the roadways. Many of these, in addition to the snow and ice, have caused severe accidents. Along one of the major roads, there were almost a hundred cars that had slid off the road and many were then abandoned.

Car accidents during the winter can be an extreme range from small fender benders due to some ice to full on crashes that cause severe damage both to the vehicles and the people involved. If you have ever been in a car accident you will know how scary they are even if you are uninjured. If you have been seriously hurt, however, they can truly change your life. From broken bones to whiplash to severe head trauma, it can be impossible to judge what may end up happening to you in this kind of a situation. Thankfully, chiropractic care can help.

Any kind of injury that has been sustained from a car accident should see you into an emergency room first along with a doctor who can tell you if surgery is going to be a necessity. Sometimes this is an unavoidable situation, unfortunately, and you can’t be treated with anything but something severe like that. However, it is always a good idea to come and see a chiropractor as well.

Very often in accidents, the back and neck are especially damaged. Luckily for you, this is what chiropractors specialize in. This means that getting in to DiBella Chiropractic may just be one of the best options for you to feel better. While we may not be able to do everything required to get you back to 100 percent, you can rest assured that we will be able to make you feel better despite whatever you had to go through.

Holiday Pain - Gastonia Chiropractic Minute

Holiday Pain - Gastonia Chiropractic Minute

The holidays are a great time of year for many people. You get to see family and friends that you may not get to see at any other point. Everything is always lovely between the snow and the lights that people hang up both outside and in. While most people regard this time of year as the most wonderful, there are sometimes some not so great moments as well.

Putting up the tree if you have one is almost always a hassle. It doesn’t matter if you have a real tree that has been cut down or an artificial one, putting it up and decorating it can be a real pain in the neck. It can also be a pain in the back, the legs, the arms, the shoulders, and many other body parts. This can be made even worse if you have pets. This is especially true if you have cats, no matter how much you may love them. Let’s face it, pets make the holidays a lot more stressful when it comes to decorations.

Another problem that arises during the holidays is the stress of people that are coming over. We have to get the house in order, make everything look nice and neat, decorate for our friends and family, and make food on top of it. It doesn’t matter how much you enjoy baking or cooking, the vast amount of food that has to be made can overwhelm just about anyone.

Presents are another source of pain and stress around this time of year. You need to make sure that everyone gets a present, you hope that everyone will like what they get, and you need to fight through the crowds to get those last moment ones you almost forgot. Then you have to wrap them, carry them around, and hope that you don’t misplace any of them before they get to their intended receiver.

Despite all of these things, the holidays are still a great time of the year. While you may end up with aches and pains, it’s normally par for the course when you take into account all of the things you need to do. Come on into DiBella Chiropractic and get an adjustment to help you relax and relieve the back pain that may be building up!

When To See A Chiropractor - Gastonia Chiropractic info

When To See A Chiropractor - Gastonia Chiropractic info

We often hear people ask when they should finally go and see a chiropractor. This question always confuses us because we want you to come in whenever you want! Obviously we need you to make an appointment first, but we would love to see you walk through our doors.

“But I’m not injured!” we hear.

“That doesn’t matter!” is always our response. You don’t have to be hurt or even in pain to come into a chiropractor. While most people do wait until something is physically bothering them, this is not a rule that chiropractors have. We will give anyone an adjustment, not just people who actively have back and neck pain. In fact, it has been shown that having adjustments and other regular chiropractic care can help keep you healthy even in the face of an injury because your body isn’t holding onto all the tension that you naturally accumulate. Think of it as preliminary treatment!

If you have been injured and are interested in looking into chiropractic care, ask your general doctor if you are cleared to have chiropractic treatment. It is always best to catch an injury quickly and chiropractic care is no different in this respect. It is much easier to help someone heal than to undo years of poor healing. If you are able to get to a chiropractor quickly after you are hurt, that is ideal. However, even that isn’t the only time to go.

If you have never been to a chiropractor before but have an old injury that still bugs you now and then, come on in. It is never too late to see if chiropractic care will help you. Granted, it may take a little longer to see any improvement on an older injury, but we still encourage you to try. After all, you never know if something will help you unless you try.
The bottom line is there has never been a better time for you to see a chiropractor than right now! Come on in regardless of injury or pain and you may just be amazed at how much better you feel. You may not have realized how much tension you were holding in your body until you feel it released. Let us help you realize just how great you can feel in your own body. Car Accidents - Chiropractic Care in Gastonia

Car Accidents - Chiropractic Care in Gastonia

Car accidents are the leading cause of death among young people ages 15-29 and nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes around the world each year. This means that there are, on average, 3,287 deaths a day from car crashes alone. That is a terrifying statistic if you ask me. What is even more concerning is that this is only talking about deaths. It is estimated that a further 20-50 million are injured or disabled every single year. This means that your chances of being in a car accident are extremely high throughout your entire life. Even if you aren’t driving, you are still at risk for one. As an example, I was in three before I was of a legal age to drive.

Car accidents can be severely disabling, both physically and mentally. You often hear of people who were in severe accidents being afraid to get back in a car or back behind the wheel. It isn’t hard to understand why, either, when you see some of the pictures of what was left of some of these cars. While we cannot help too much with the psychological aspect of the crash, here at DiBella Chiropractic we certainly will do all we can to help your body recover after an accident.

These accidents can absolutely ravage someone’s body depending on the severity of the impact. You never truly know the extent of the injuries until you are either seen by a doctor or you start to live with the difference. This may be an impact to your ability to work or continue a hobby that you love as well. While a hospital trip is going to be your best bet immediately, you may end up having to go through years of physical therapy and other treatments in order to get back to how you were, if that’s at all possible.

Here at DiBella Chiropractic, we understand just how devastating a car crash can be. We see it all the time and are dedicated to making sure that your transition through healing is as painless and quick as possible. If you have been in an accident, come into our office and see just how much we can help you through your journey. You have our promise that you won’t be turned away from healing. You never know until you try, so it’s more than worth it to come to DiBella Chiropractic!
